Marriage

October 2006

Dear Friends,

The following is information we would like you to know about.

First, marriage as God designed it is under vicious attack.  Homosexual activists have sued to overturn Iowa’s marriage law – in spite of the fact that one-man/one-woman marriage is God’s first institution (Gen. 1:27-28).  Homosexuality is clearly condemned as sin by God (I Cor. 6:9-13, Romans 1).  The Iowa House voted to allow a vote on a Constitutional Amendment, the Iowa Marriage Amendment (IMA).The Iowa Senate refused to solve this crisis, by not even allowing a vote on a Constitutional Amendment, the Iowa Marriage Amendment (IMA), which would have ended the lawsuit.

Representative Kevin McCarthy was a key opponent of the IMA, having voted against it in 2005, and now wants you to re-elect him to serve for two more years.  Fortunately, a God-fearing, caring man, Steven Inman, is challenging him on November 7 to replace McCarthy and serve you.  Mr. Inman is a strong supporter of Biblical marriage.

Second, our nation’s abortion laws allow abortion any time, for any reason during pregnancy.  Even the ban on partial birth abortion has been struck down by pro-abortion judges.  This procedure is similar to the barbaric child sacrifice condemned throughout the Bible (II Kings 21, II Chron. 28).  God’s people are told to hate and expose such evil (Rom. 12:9, Eph. 5:11) and do what we can to stop it (Prov. 24:11-12, Matt. 5:13-16).

This year’s House candidates have widely differing positions on abortion.  Steven Inman is clearly a defender of the unborn, while Kevin McCarthy twice voted against a bill that would have given pregnant women information about adoption and the risks of abortion called the “Women’s Right to Know” bill.  In other states where this bill did pass, thousands of women each year have chosen life instead of abortion for their child.  McCarthy also voted against a bill that would have treated the unborn as a human being when a criminal attacks a pregnant woman and kills the unborn child.

Just as there are clear distinctions in our state house races, differences also exist in the race for Governor.  Jim Nussle has spent sixteen years in Congress defending the lives of the unborn, never casting a vote against the lives of the unborn.  Jim also is an original co-sponsor of the Federal Marriage Amendment.  His parents raised him to value life and the love of the Lord, and those values have permeated his service to his country.  On the other hand, it is important that you know that his opponent, Chet Culver, has received the endorsement of Planned Parenthood (the nation’s largest abortion provider), and has committed to extend “rights” to homosexuals.

What you can do:

1)Pray for our rulers (I Tim. 2:1-4).

2)Vote Biblically (Prov. 28:12).  If you will be out of town or unable to visit your polling place on November 7, please vote absentee (see enclosed instructions).  If you, or someone you know in Iowa House District , are not yet a registered voter, you must be registered by October ?? in order to vote in the November 7 election.

3) Tell your friends, family and neighbors.

Thank you for considering this information, and for praying about your part in the coming election.

Your friends in Christ,
