Our children deserve a world-class education system. To achieve this goal, standards must be established to ensure children can perform at their grade level before moving to the next grade.

Family is #1 to Steve, after his faith. Family issues will be central and all legislation will be evaluated on how it effects the family.

Inman prepares for House run in District 67

(DES MOINES) – Steve Inman, a Des Moines Civil Engineering Technician, has declared his candidacy for state representative as a Republican in House District 67.

Inman, 56, says he looks forward to a straight-forward debate on where Iowa is headed.

“I believe that we as a state can and must do better,” said Inman, who with wife Anita has three grown children.

Inman will focus on the values of Iowans in his campaign, which he says are family and community-oriented.

“I believe that jobs, education, health care and crime prevention are part of our overall values as a state,” said Inman. “I intend to work on each of these issues at the Statehouse.”

Inman says we are at a pivotal point in the education debate, and a tougher, more rigorous curriculum must be at the forefront of the debate.

“I believe we need to encourage more parental involvement in students’ lives,” he continued. “Education begins at home, and I believe the teacher-parent partnership should be our focus. It is a competitive global economy, and retaining America’s top spot in the world is going to require additional time and resources.”

Inman also believes the recent CIETC scandal is indicative of what’s wrong with a governmental approach to solve things.

“Raising taxes and growing government is not the answer,” he said. “Taxes are too high, as evidenced by bloated and exorbitant salaries that go unnoticed. Government is bloated, and we must first look within, identifying those places where we can trim and – in some cases – eliminate areas of fraud and waste.”

He says the key to economic development is contained within our fields of opportunities.

“Alternative energy has finally hit the mainstream, and we must capitalize on that or risk falling behind,” he continued. “Ethanol, soy diesel and wind – those are all contained within our backyard. Let’s work on a partnership between our cities and rural areas and tap into that unlimited potential.”

Inman faces no Republican primary. The election will be held on November 7.
